For the love of Gilmore

Since 2007, May 15th of 2007- to be exact- there has been something missing from my life. Something that was much bigger than a television show that I would religiously buy on DVD every season for exorbitant prices.

Gilmore girls isn't just a show, it's a religion, as Lorelai herself would say. Lorelai and Rory and the whole town of Stars Hollow reached through the barrier of the TV and they connected with you. The Gilmore gang gave us some of the funniest lines and moments in TV history and for too long we have been left with unanswered questions and holes in our hearts where a Lorelai and Luke wedding would fit perfectly.

They say that writing about your passion is easy, yet Gilmore girls is my biggest passion and I am struggling to find the right words to describe today's news.

People talk about shows changing their lives and I never really understood that until Gilmore girls. I got my journalistic ambition from Rory, my passion for fast talking and sarcasm from Lorelai and from Stars Hollow I got the sense that the world around you is only a good place if you are kind to it.

Originally I was ecstatic, the best show I had ever watched was coming back to my screen, but then the glass half empty attitude in me came out and I realised all that could go wrong.

As a Gilmore girl who frequently contemplates whether Lorelai or Rory is the perfect name for my first born daughter, I have written a letter to my pal (she doesn't know it yet), Amy Sherman-Palladino, to ensure that my suggestions, requests and questions can be properly dealt with in the Netflix revival, which can be found below.

Dear Amy,

wow pal long time no see. How's Daniel? Is he over the train wreck he conducted in 2007? I hope so.

You're back. I've got to say I've waited about eight years for this and I'm happy, I really am, but I do have a few bones to pick with you.

To remain more positive than negative I will mention three things and then hopefully the fandom and I can move on from them. April? Christopher and Lorelai?? Luke and Lorelai not married in the final???

Anyway, now we must put those misdemeanours behind us and focus on the future.

Firstly, I wanted to write to you and tell you that clauses must be placed in Scott Patterson's contract where he does not sign on for the revival, unless his character is engaged or married to Lauren's. The fandom have dealt with Luke and Lorelai being just out of reach for far too long now (You'll thank me later for this.)

Secondly, nobody wants to see April in excess. A brief mention of April in passing would suffice.

Thirdly, respect the memory of the late and wonderfully talented Edward Herrmann and not have Emily remarry. Emily Gilmore is unique and one of a kind. Richard was her great love and he cannot be replaced. Have her consume herself with work for the D.A.R so that the memory of Richard Gilmore is not disrespected.

Speaking of respect, if the rumours are true, you need to remind Melissa McCarthy where she got her start please. If it wasn't for you, Melissa wouldn't have even gotten the part.

Stars Hollow and the show itself isn't the same without Sookie, please get her on board.

In terms of Rory, everyone would love to see her fulfil her journalistic dream. She may have put boyfriends second to her work now and thats ok, but if you feel like she does need to be romantically involved, please, please do not have her go back to an old boyfriend. That was tried with Lorelai and Christopher and we all saw how that turned out. Side note; if you do revisit an old flame please make it Jess.

And Lorelai, sweet Lorelai, the woman who has given me inspiration my whole adolescence should be dealt with particularly carefully. We don't want more heartbreak, we want love, we want Lukalai. No more blue ribbons for Luke and pink ribbons if you support Lorelai. They belong together, they make each other better.

A few months ago you promised us that if a revival was to happen that it would be done in the right way. Eight years ago we were let down and the only hope we had was that you would take the reins again and give the show the ending it deserved.

We trust you, we want to hear your final four words that you planned for the show's ending and most of all we want our show back.

Where you lead, we will follow.

The Gilmore fandom revels in light of today's announcement and while of course there is apprehension and curiosity, the feeling of just plain excitement leads me to believe that this will be one spectacular revival.

I'll leave you with the words of our friend, Lorelai Gilmore, 'I need coffee in an IV', because I won't be able to sleep until this revival hits our screens.
